The Dream of a Museum. Alvar Aalto’s Museum Designs
The Dream of a Museum. Alvar Aalto’s Museum Designs displays Alvar Aalto’s designs of museums and
exhibition venues. The Finnish architect designed no less than 15 museums although only three of which
were finally built, namely the Museum of Central Finland (1956-61), the Museum Alvar Aalto (1971-73) in
Jyväskylä and the Museum of Modern Art Kunsten in Aalborg, Denmark (1966-72). An exhibition focused
on technical drawing, sketches and other design material that addresses Aalto’s main themes from his
research on museums: from the staging of the artwork, to the lighting and the visitor’s movements inside the space.
